Dre's Jewels is a collection of work created by a Bristol Artist, Dre Puddy.  Each piece is unique due to the methods used; wire wrapping, hammering (tempering), looping, encasing, shaping, soldering, filing, tightening, threading and so on.

I always use sterling silver if I am going to do metal work unless I am using watch parts to make steam punk jewellery; then I find it is best to use all sorts of materials.

When making a piece of jewellery I like to frame gemstones, beach glass and shells with silver or make silver shapes and add decorative beads to them.

I have also been experimenting with resin and fimo.  Head to my website to see more photos.

I am Craig, a self taught hobby potter that has always been intrigued by the processes and materials involved.  I have made bespoke pieces for family and friends over the years, it is some of them that have urged me to start making things for sale.  I like to make unusual pieces, never the same thing twice.  I like to push materials and processes close to breaking point so a lot of my stuff up 'til now has not survived the entire process.  The experimentation that I have been doing of late has given me some confidence in achieving what i set out to do.  I'm a practical person, hence the abundance of bowls and the quest for functionality. The sculptures in this selection are my first attempt at something purely aesthetic, some functionality remains though.  These pieces are the result of me playing around with the medium and learning the constraints of the clay and glazes in custom built kilns.  I already have my next kiln full in my mind and am confident that my next firings will produce finished pieces of a much higher quality.

Kipenzi was started in Kenya in 2009 by Linda Odhiambo and Alex Hooper. Our name KIPENZI is a Swahili word meaning 'something loved'.  Linda is a hands-on designer whilst Alex is a photographer and graphic designer. Together, a creative partnership with an eye for the abundance of beauty and inspiration presented by Africa.

Linda was working in the craft sector in Kenya and soon realised that many of the 'craft' items produced, although 'hand made' were mass produced for the tourist market. With her love of fashion and design and a wealth of exciting materials to work with, Linda set about creating a new kind of jewellery that was modern, chic and yet always African.

We are thrilled to be introducing our unique and exciting designs made using recycled and renewable raw materials. Kipenzi products are made by us at our own workshop on the outskirts of Nairobi and in our Frome workshop in the UK, whilst other components such as glass beads are made by local skilled Kenyan artisans. We have a close working relationship with all our suppliers, many of whom are women's self-help groups or co-operatives. We ensure that fair trading principles are upheld in all of our activities. We work together on design and production techniques, often spending many hours developing new and effective methods of production. In the coming year we expect to have full Fair Trade affiliation.

Re-cycling is a very popular theme in the developed world but Africans were recycling things long before the rest of the world had thought of those little coloured bins by the front door! So yes, All of our products are made from recycled or renewable raw materials. Brass comes from discarded padlocks and aluminium from dead engines. Glass beads are made from old bottles and our beautiful bone beads are from farm animals only.

It is our pleasure to be involved with the wonderful and skillful artisans of Kenya and through our sales in the wider world, we hope to help them grow and continue to support and improve the lives of families and communities.

And in the end, it's up to you. We have a produced a collection of exciting, stylish, chic, modern, AFRICAN jewellery that we absolutely love.

We hope that you love it too....

Beautiful handmade cutting boards, presentation blocks and wood products.

All 100% handmade in my workspace in Southville, Bristol. Each piece is lovingly hand picked, cut, sanded and oiled by me to create a unique and interesting item. I use many varieties of wood and produce a range of styles so there is something to suit every taste and occasion!

From small day-to-day cutting boards to large presentation blocks and cheese boards you will find a selection of solid, gorgeous wood pieces which can last a lifetime and provide the perfect present.

All timber is hand-picked from local, established west-country wood specialists (Yandles in Martock, Interesting Timbers near Emborough). I then carefully cut and sand each piece and any knots are filled and treated with food-safe filler. Over a period of a week multiple coats of Tung oil are then applied and rubbed down which aids to protect the wood, bring out the grain and provide a naturally food safe finish.

Comissions are always welcome.

Chocolate does not have to be a guilty pleasure - in fact, it can be one of the healthiest parts of your diet and I want to share this with the world as it has completely changed my life!

I was diagnosed with M.E about 18 months ago and was forced to leave my job as a support worker. After not receiving much support from my doctor, I began looking for alternative forms of treatment to aid my recovery. After much reading and research, trying and testing a whole variety of things, I discovered a number of foods that made a huge difference to my energy levels. Soon i began experimenting with ways in which I could combine these ingredients to make something more palatable - and so began my journey into making chocolate...

Picture
I make Raw chocolate, i.e the methods for extracting/processing the ingredients and making them into chocolate use controlled temperatures, which retains the maximum nutrient of the food. Cocoa is made from roasting cacao beans - and this kills up to 90% of the nutrients in the chocolate! Most chocolate you find in the shops is made with cocoa and thus been stripped of most of its goodness. Often, milk is added to the mix, which inhibits your bodies ability to adsorb antioxidants.

My chocolate recipes are designed so that they not only taste super yummy, they are incredibly nutritious and healthy too. I use ingredients that compliment each others taste and nutritional benefits e.g purple corn not only adds a fruity sweetness, it also increases you bloods capacity to absorb antioxidants so you get the most out of the ingredients. All my ingredients are raw, organic and sugar free.

Making raw chocolate is soooo easy - and this is something else I want to share with you all. In the new year, I will begin offering personalized raw chocolate making workshops to match your tastes and dietary requirements. Do you have a chocolate dream recipe? I will show you how to make it, from the comfort of your own kitchen. Please contact me to book a time if you are interested :) I will be giving out free samples of my white/purple choc with white mulberry and cranberry and my dark choc with sour cherries, black mulberry, strawberry and bee pollen - see you in December! :)

I was smitten with beads from the first time I walked into a bead shop in Palo Alto in 1997.  For quite a while I made conventional beaded jewellery.  Then, a few years later, I opened a book about woven beadwork, and realised that tiny glass beads could be used to create not just pretty jewellery, but expressive artworks.  I taught myself the techniques and developed my own organic, freeform style, inspired by oceanic life forms and the art and architecture of Gaudi and Hundertwasser.

I became increasingly intrigued by the medium of glass itself, and in 2006 took my first glass bead-making class.  At first I was mainly interested in making my own glass buttons for use on my woven beadwork creations, but then obsession with glass took over.

My work currently is a mixture of my own lampworked beads with woven beadwork using seed beads, and wire-work. I like to use swirling organic shapes, and either a lot of glitter, or blending, transparent colours.

My work has been exhibited at the Bristol Designers' Guild, Bristol Architecture Centre, Northampton Museum as part of an exhibition of contemporary beadwork, and most recently at Bristol Tobacco Factory as part of an exhibition to celebrate Amnesty International's 50th anniversary.

Hello!  My name is Sally, and I make gift boxes.  I’m based in Cam, Gloucestershire, and have been making boxes for a little while now.

My inspiration comes from a few sources – from Christmas films (usually American) where the people come home from shopping with beautifully wrapped presents which only have to have the lid lifted to reveal the contents; from getting into a right old tangle trying to wrap odd shaped gifts; from seeing my Grandma struggle to open her gifts because she couldn’t grip the paper to rip it; from seeing my Mum’s face light up at the sight of a lovely boxed gift heading her way ….

I think that a lovely box lifts a gift – a few handmade goodies in a box doesn’t have to be expensive, yet to the recipient it will seem like you’ve made the biggest effort.  A box can be intriguing – the vintage style boxes, made to look like something that you’d find in the back corner of Grandma’s wardrobe, would be perfect for vintage style jewellery.  There are also more contemporary styles, as well as traditional ribboned boxes.  Boxes can also mask the shape of gifts to confound any present squeezer!  And more seriously, for those with dexterity problems, a box lid is easier to lift than fighting with paper and tape.

The boxes will be in The Looking Glass for the whole of December, so please come and have a look, and I hope that you find a box that suits your needs!  If not, please contact me and I’ll be happy to make a box to your specifications if I can.
